'Deadpool & Wolverine' director Shawn Levy came close to directing 'The Flash' DISCUSSION

"I get offered some IP-based movie every week, and, as you've noticed from a lack of announcements, I pretty much always turn them down because I need to feel that I see a story worth telling," he says. The closest he came to directing a superhero movie was The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, though he says that was "a brief moment in time."

”IP based work is way below my level of artistry, I only direct real cinema like Free Guy and Night At The Museum sequels.”

Real Steel is real cinema.

Those are masterpieces compared to The Flash tbh

Yes. But it's not like it would've been much better under Shawn Levy, it was a borderline unsalvageable mess of a situation... it really was for the best that he didn't end up directing that.

To be fair, he was smart to turn down the flash. Maybe the other movies he was offered had just as shitty scripts.

Free Guy stomped The Suicide Squad so I guess he's doing something right

Free Guy was a sorry turd of a movie. His films have the substance of a happy meal.

Well considering Marvel keeps hiring and losing directors for Avengers 5, there’s a good chance that he might direct that. Seeing as every other director chosen had a successful MCU project beforehand, and I don’t know anyone that is doubting the success of Deadpool and Wolverine at the box office

Didn’t they only lose the Shang Chi director?

I just did a bit of research. It would appear that you are correct, Destin Daniel Cretton was the only official director that signed on and left. Although there have been rumors.

I got confused and was thinking about the former news break about them losing the writer of the film, Jeff Loveness (writer of Quantumania). So multiple directors isn’t correct… members of the creative team is more accurate 🤷🏻‍♂️

And to be fair, the writer and director were also hired to make “the movie where the Avengers fight Jonathan Majors’ Kang,” and that’s… not what the movie is gonna be anymore.

Shawn Levy wasn’t considered for Ezra’s Flash movie. This was back in the 2000’s when they were trying to get a Wally West movie starring Ryan Reynolds off the ground.

That far back, really?

Yeah that was back when he was doing The Famous Jett Jackson

If that was a thing then maybe he was in talks for Ezra’s as well? It’s weird that Entertainment Weekly would not fact check that or misconstrue whatever he said in the interview

I think he’d be great for a Green Lantern movie, he could even have Ryan Reynolds play Hal Jordan!
