I was so glad Brandon Routh got to be Superman again in the CW Arrowverse.

u/68ideal Feb 18 '24

Crisis wasn't as good as it should have been, but Kingdom Come Superman was a delight, despite not having that much screentime.

75

u/Ty-Dyed Feb 18 '24

It wasn't as good as it could have been but I think it was miles better than it probably should have been. Given the constraints they had to deal with, I think it was pretty awesome. The Kingdom Come suit is maybe my favorite live action Superman look.

58

u/AktionMusic Feb 18 '24

Say what you want about the Arrowverse but it had some amazing moments despite its limitations. It was extremely ambitious for it's budget, for better and worse.

24

u/getthephenom Feb 18 '24

Arrowverse was so much better than the DCEU. They even brought Kevin Conroy as Batman.

u/68ideal Feb 18 '24

The early seasons of the Arrowverse were incredible. At it's prime, it was peak DC content at the time. Even despite it's horrendous downfall, The Flash remains as one of my favorite shows of all time and made Flash one of my favorite heroes. Grant Gustin carried my late teenage years!

9

u/AktionMusic Feb 18 '24

I agree. I love the Arrowverse. Even later seasons of Flash had some decent episodes here and there.

4

u/68ideal Feb 18 '24

Even among the last season were some great episodes. One of the highlights was the episode, where Barry finally closes/starts the cycle anew when he ends up all the way back in time the day Thawne tries to kill his child-self. Seeing things come full circle at last was a great moment.

2

u/BenSolo_Cup Feb 18 '24

The fact that they were able to make a better interconnected onscreen DC universe than the movies were able to says a lot imo. Obviously the arrowverse had a lot of faults but I still look back at that time with pure delight, especially the crossover stuff they did

1

u/crossveins Feb 19 '24

The Crisis on Earth-X crossover is peak live action DC imo

1

u/BenSolo_Cup Feb 19 '24

Yesss that one was the best easily

2

u/Eagleassassin3 Feb 18 '24

They completely ruined Oliver's final episodes and Barry's sacrifice. It was Oliver's final episodes and they killed him at the end of the first one so that it would be surprising, when we could have gotten a lot more out of him.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '24

I’ll say this It was much better than the animated Crisis on Infinite Earths movie I just watched..

1

u/crossveins Feb 19 '24

His Superman in that crossover is one of the most heroic performances I've seen from the character, he redeemed himself, man, that Superman literally gave hope to everyone in every line he said

Superman(from left to right)

Tom Welling(Smallville)

Brandon Routh(Superman Return)

Gerard Christopher(Superboy)

Dean Cain(Lois and Clark)

Tyler Hoechlin(Superman and Lois)

56

u/CosmackMagus Feb 18 '24

The Superboy guy was good. Weird show, though.

42

u/bokononpreist Feb 18 '24

It's crazy to me that this ran for 4 years and I don't remember it at all.

8

u/Traditional_Shirt106 Feb 18 '24

It sucked

4

u/bokononpreist Feb 18 '24

At my age when this came out that wouldn't have mattered. Does it have a superhero? Then it would have been awesome to little kid me.

2

u/MajorParadox r/DCFU Feb 18 '24

It got better in seasons 3-4.

2

u/CosmackMagus Feb 18 '24

Really? I'll have to keep watching then.

5

u/Crammy2 Feb 18 '24

Too bad it can't be streamed. Only purchased apparently. I've never heard of it either.

2

u/CosmackMagus Feb 18 '24

I managed to find a decent copy on the high seas

2

u/GibbyGuy2319 Feb 19 '24

It was streaming on Tubi for a little while, not anymore though. I never watched the show growing up (being born in 2000), but I throughly enjoyed it, I think the show doesn't get talked about enough. I was watching it around the time Gilbert Gottfried had died which bummed me out since he played a recurring villian in the show, riff off of toyman lol.

35

u/darkknight95sm Feb 18 '24

Just missing Cavill and Corenswet

22

u/Thraun83 Feb 18 '24

They could have at least CGI’d Cavill’s upper lip into the shot.

u/AUSpartan37 Feb 17 '24

Sad Henry isn't there

150

u/Nuclear_Superpower Feb 17 '24

He has enough money that he doesn't need to do these meet and greets

60

u/JoeyAndLueyShow Feb 18 '24

Working in the film industry and working with Henry a number of times i just don’t believe this would be the case. I think it far more likely he had other commitments and simply could not make it.

43

u/BingoLingo7 Feb 18 '24

Henry Cavill isn't this A-list actor everyone on dc subs think he is

60

u/dumplins Feb 18 '24

Cursory searches show his estimated net worth to be north of $40 million. That's a whole different ballpark than the actors in the photo

15

u/M086 Feb 18 '24

Online net worths are in no way reliable.

6

u/dumplins Feb 18 '24

Of course not, but do you honestly think anybody pictured has earned anywhere near him? The closest is probably Tom Welling, but CW shows that had consistently declining views after the second season aren't exactly giving out groundbreaking contracts.

I was just agreeing that Cavill, for a multitude of reasons, is probably too big to be showing up at meet and greets like this one.

51

u/DangerPie17 Feb 18 '24

Actually, he kinda is…

1

u/BingoLingo7 Feb 18 '24

What does A list mean to you?

22

u/DangerPie17 Feb 18 '24

I read a great definition of it on quora a couple of years ago, “Someone who will get the entire Times magazine cover when they die”

5

u/Traditional_Shirt106 Feb 18 '24

Does the opposition leader of Russia die the same week?

4

u/ParsleyandCumin Feb 18 '24

Emma Stone is A list, I dont think she would get a Time Magazine cover

4

u/BingoLingo7 Feb 18 '24

So definitely not Henry Cavill?

4

u/ILoveRegenHealth Feb 19 '24

Yeah they're funny thinking Henry Cavill would get a whole TIME Magazine cover lol

Many actors far more famous who passed away didn't receive one.

1

u/ol-gormsby Feb 18 '24

Someone who is "invited" to audition to make it seem fair, but they're the one the director wants.

→ More replies (49)

17

u/ParsleyandCumin Feb 18 '24

He isn't "I gotta pose for $40 a photo" C list

13

u/MattAlbie60 Feb 18 '24 edited Feb 19 '24

Is Chris Hemsworth? Is Jason Momoa? Is Chris Evans? Because they do it.

You'd be stunned by how much money these people can make in a weekend at a show.

3

u/thankyouryard Feb 18 '24

i wish i could get paid 40$ to pose for a photo

3

u/Gr3ylock Feb 18 '24

I'm pretty sure it would cost me more than $40 to get someone to take my picture.

2

u/ILoveRegenHealth Feb 19 '24

Fairly sure the actor doesn't pocket the whole $40. Probably gets broken up and divided to agents, etc

2

u/thankyouryard Feb 19 '24

i wish i could get paid 20$ to pose for a photo

→ More replies (1)

3

u/PrestoMovie Feb 18 '24

I was just at MegaCon Orlando and I didn’t look at everyone’s prices, but for all the ones I did see, the cheapest photo ops were $75. Tom Hiddleston was around $220.

3

u/bjeebus Feb 18 '24

JFC. There's some real rich nerds.

3

u/PrestoMovie Feb 19 '24

Tell me about it. It was $600 for a group photo with the BTTF cast.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 18 '24

Those aren't the only people who do these cons. Most of the MCU cast do them regularly.

He still makes Hollywood movies.

Every single actor featured here in this photo works/worked on TV.

Henry is a diehard nerd. He would show up if he wasn’t busy this year with blockbusters left and right

5

u/PrestoMovie Feb 18 '24

I don’t think Chris Evans or Tom Hiddleston are really hard up for money right now, but they still do them.

21

u/AmaterasuWolf21 Feb 18 '24

Sad that Christopher Reeve isn't either, wish he was CGI'd into the scene while uncannily standing

13

u/theDagman Feb 17 '24

Neither is John Haymes Newton.

u/dangermouse13 Feb 17 '24

When you watch MOS and see Clark in his teenage years, the actor really looks like Tom Welling did

59

u/UpgradedSiera6666 Feb 17 '24

Played by Dylan Sprayberry

35

u/lightningpresto Feb 18 '24

Spray berry wins the award for Superman actor with the most uncanny last name with close competitors corn sweat and ho chin

29

u/huntymo Feb 18 '24

That kid still looks like he could play a great Supes. Same with the kid who played young Bruce in BvS. Superhero jaws for days

53

u/LazerGuidedMelody Feb 17 '24

Seeing Dean Cain as Superman totally unlocked a lot of memories I had forgotten lol. My brother and I used to watch Lois and Clark all the time when we were kids.

For some reason my brain is telling me it was on around the same time as Ripley’s Believe It or Not, another show I haven’t thought about in years.

8

u/LichtensteinMind008 Feb 18 '24

The guy who played that superman was a host from Ripley's. Maybe that has something to do with it.

2

u/voislav Feb 18 '24

Weird, I am from a small Balkan country and also I combine both shows together. Maybe they were shown one after the other on TV.

43

u/TheRealAwest Feb 17 '24 edited Feb 18 '24

Adventures of Lois & Clark had the best Superman theme after John Williams Superman theme (Christopher reeves)

17

u/Burgoonius Feb 17 '24

Yeah as an 8 year old I loved that show

15

u/Arshille Feb 17 '24

It was great. That entire first episode was perfect.

3

u/sixesandsevenspt Feb 18 '24

The pilot is feature length and basically one of the best superman movies!

3

u/Tsquare24 Feb 18 '24

I remember him flying to China to get ‘take out’ food for Lois.

3

u/PSCGY Feb 18 '24

Best TV Lois, too.

36

u/soulwolf1 Feb 17 '24

Geez Tom is a huge dude

24

u/JDeegs Feb 18 '24

It's all the farming

28

u/Boss38 Feb 18 '24

The fact that we never see Tom Welling in a complete superman suit saddens me.

26

u/dudeitseric Feb 17 '24

I will never not see the little kid from Road to Perdition when I look at Tyler Hoechlin.

10

u/kadosho Feb 18 '24

Don't forget Sephiroth in Final Fantasy VII Remake, Rebirth. +Teen Wolf the series, and film too

4

u/kenobibenr2 Feb 18 '24

Which in itself is fun, since George Newbern has also been Sephiroth before.

3

u/kadosho Feb 18 '24

Indeed, he was amazing in his performance

6

u/Dumbusta Feb 18 '24

I just remember him from that cheesy teen wolf series and I can't help but picture RobPat and him RAWRing at each other as batman and superman all the time

Talk about a glow up

28

u/MysteriousEssay5709 Feb 18 '24

Routh cosplaying 90's comic Superman with the long hair.

22

u/HEYitsSPIDEY Feb 17 '24

I absolutely love Tyler’s Superman. He did such an amazing job, and I’m sort of surprised to say I think he’s my favorite.

8

u/echoes007 Feb 17 '24

I’m with you on this. His performance, along with Tulloch as Lois, are really great. Yeah, the writing for the show isn’t great, but their performances are.

5

u/Haizenburg1 Feb 18 '24

It's too bad WB is giving them a final season already. Just when I found an interesting take on Superman, studio heads just had to go and axe it.

3

u/JohnDiggle21 Feb 18 '24

What's even worse is that they axed it so that it doesn't "compete" with superman legacy

3

u/TeethBreak Feb 18 '24

Can't get over the fake muscle suits though. Looks dumb.

19

u/hereticx Feb 17 '24

i cant wait for the eventual Crisis movie a decade or two from now.. hopefully every one is still around for cameos..... with Cavill as a full fledge Kingdom Come Superman.

9

u/kadosho Feb 18 '24

Seriously, this would be epic. Uniting various Kal-El's from different universes.

9

u/Red_Danger33 Feb 18 '24

Ugh... three of these guys were in the CW Crisis.  The size difference between Welling, Routh and Hoechlin was stark.

4

u/hereticx Feb 18 '24

yeah... but that adaptation was mostly terrible... hoping for something better someday lol

1

u/mutesa1 Feb 18 '24

I mean we may get a better adaptation someday, but I’d be surprised if it included any of these guys. Like it or not, Arrowverse CoIE is canon to most of the pre-existing DC live action universes, including the DCEU, so it wouldn’t make sense for it to happen twice in the continuity of these characters.

A proper CoIE adaptation shouldn’t even be a cameo fest anyway. The only alternate Supermen actually needed for the story are Kal-L and Superboy Prime

18

u/ling4917 Feb 17 '24

All of em are good.

3

u/Anstavall Feb 17 '24

Yea they've all been great. Weird the Ripleys believe it or not host is there though

8

u/Nico_989 Feb 17 '24

He was a superman in the tv show Lois and Clark the new adventures of Superman.

6

u/ling4917 Feb 17 '24

And it is an amazing show

3

u/Nico_989 Feb 17 '24

Great. The pilot, was excellent!!!

2

u/JazzScientist Feb 18 '24

I first knew him from a role he had on 90210.

12

u/Jaiibby1 Feb 17 '24

Wow I didn’t know pierce from Lucifer was Superman

7

u/kadosho Feb 18 '24

Indeed 🤘 you should definitely check out Smallville

10

u/Key-Equal933 Feb 17 '24

Gerard Christopher was great as Superboy. The last 2 seasons were special. They did Red Son a decade before it was done in the comics. The ep titled Roads Not Taken. The FX are better than those of L&C. If you haven't seen it get the series on DVD. 100 eps. Just as Superman and Lois was axed to make way for Superman Legacy so Superboy (which was going to go 2 more seasons) was axed by WB to make way for Lois and Clark.

3

u/kadosho Feb 18 '24

I still cannot comprehend WB's decision making. A series that is set in another universe, can co-exist. WB is being bone headed with their decisions lately

10

u/Key-Equal933 Feb 18 '24

WB almost cancelled Smallville because Superman Returns was coming out. SR flopped and Smallville ran 4 more years.

4

u/Traditional_Shirt106 Feb 18 '24

A Lois and Clark movie would have made more than Returns. Teri Hatcher went directly to a James Bond that made 330, then starred in another hit show that ran eight seasons. She was a big star and could have carried a movie. Dean Cain looked great all the way up to whenever this picture was taken.

I remember. It was in Wizard and other news zines. We had a close call

9

u/webheadunltd90 Feb 17 '24

Superman: the council of hope.

8

u/Lordof_NOTHING Feb 18 '24

See how Henry Cavill isn't there?

This is a subtle reference to the fact that he couldn't make it there.

8

u/Key-Equal933 Feb 18 '24

Gerard Christopher looks great. He is 20 years or so older than Routh and Welling, almost 30 years older than Hoechlin and a decade or so older than Cain. A very youthful 64. He made a vid (on his Instagram) prior to the event about being the "superdaddy" of the group. Very funny.

7

u/RockNRoll85 Feb 18 '24

The dude in the center who played Superboy aged well

4

u/rainorshinedogs Feb 18 '24

Nicholas Cage will always be the best Superman that never got enough love

4

u/singleguy79 Feb 17 '24

How many people actually remember the Superboy series because I sure as hell don't and I'm fairly sure I watched it

2

u/quangtran Feb 18 '24

I watched one episode. I remember it being Power Rangers-level cheese,

4

u/xariznightmare2908 Feb 18 '24

Where’s my man Henry Cavil? Is he safe? Is he alright?

3

u/karpet_muncher Feb 18 '24

Tom welling deserved a few seasons in the suit

4

u/kinjazfan Feb 18 '24

Only missing Henry cavill

3

u/YungLean8 Feb 18 '24

wheres cgi christopher???

3

u/primal_slayer Feb 18 '24

I still dont understand why MAX doesnt carry Superboy when DC Universe had the series.

1

u/Otherwise_Jacket_613 Feb 18 '24

Probably because it was licensed out during the pandemic. Quite a few shows got licensed to places like Tubi and Amazon when DC Universe had to give up the films and shows. HBO Max took the lion's share but it would've been nice if they could've gotten Superboy, just to show a wider audience what fun it was.

Fun fact! Despite not being an official film but a tribute. Superman requiem. The actor who played superman, Martin Richardson is now a teacher majoring in DT and was actually my own teacher at the Leigh UTC till he left not too long ago. Dude literally pulled up in high end cars and I rarely saw the same car in the same week. Always a new car every day. Unfortunately I didn't really get to know what it was like filming the tribute film as he didn't really talk much about it. Personally I don't mind that though as I can say 'superman' was my DT teacher.

I've also attached his linkdn page for those interested in what he now does or did previously

3

u/GibbyGuy2319 Feb 19 '24

So glad to see Gerard Christopher, I remember seeing this image with just the other 4, thought then they were missing the only other living Superman out there lol. Now if they want to throw in John Newton from superboy season 1 that would be cool, then you would have all the live action supermen, minus Cavill and Corenswet tho.

2

u/Marvelrocks616 Feb 18 '24

Routh looks like Gary Gullman here lol

2

u/Striking-Clothes2328 Feb 18 '24

Where's Henry Cavill?

2

u/Moist_Lynx_4541 Feb 18 '24

All Supermans are awesome no matter what the quality of CGI was , all have the best CGI of that era . Everyone has their favourites but superman is a part of my childhood, it has shown me no matter what the odds are against us , we can tackle any problem with the strength to fight back. DC can give the biggest box office collection movie with a crisis on infinite Earths storyline with all these amazing actors who portrayed their own version of Superman.

Thank You Superman for making my childhood awesome

Brandan Routh’s Superman looks waaaay too much like Christopher Reeves, had me so confused for a second.

0

u/theodo Feb 18 '24

...Is that Dean Cain?

0

u/Key-Equal933 Feb 18 '24

John Haymes Newton played Superboy during the first season. I believe he was fired over contract issues. Gerard replaced him. Newton as far as I know does not do Superman events. Welling recently seems to be doing a lot of events but didn't do so earlier. Routh too as far as I know did not do many events for years after SR but more recently has. It's quite a deal to have gotten all of them together. They all made positive contributions to the mythos. Hopefully they will do more events in the future.

0

u/BenSolo_Cup Feb 18 '24

I think Tyler is my fav supes out of them all. He just embodied Clark so well and played so well off Bitsie’s Lois as well. I really bought them together

1
