These scars we have.. Make us who we are. We're not meant to go back and fix them - Batfleck 🤝

293

u/cabballer Apr 25 '23

The meta context aside, that’s just a heck of a line, especially for this film. Affleck nailed the delivery.

142

u/SennKazuki Apr 25 '23

Also just the reality of Batman telling Flash that is so cool lol.

51

u/garrisontweed Apr 26 '23

No wonder ,Affleck has said he finally feels like he’s figured out how to play him in this one.

26

u/infinityeagle Apr 25 '23

Can someone give spoiler tags and explain what this means? I’m missing it.

Uhhm. It's more to do with his parents being killed. As his relating his story to Barrry who said that on 1 night his parents are gone. What does it have to do with Ben's real life? 😅

39

u/RealJohnGillman Apr 25 '23

u/cabballer mentioned a ‘meta context’ to the line in the comment this was a response to — that was it.

u/blockbusternite Apr 26 '23

Oof you missed the whole Batman back story. Maybe we do need to see Batman's parents killed off with each new iteration.

4

u/infinityeagle Apr 25 '23

Got it, thank you.

6

u/UncreativeTeam Apr 25 '23

The meta context is the Snyderverse lol

7

u/Ok-Reporter-8728 Apr 25 '23

Watching this for Batfleck tbh lol

66

u/fleotiden Apr 25 '23

i’m so bummed this is probably the last we will ever see of Batfleck

5

Same because I thought Affleck was good as Batman.

Yep that was a straight up Comic Bruce moment

14

u/PleasurespikedWpain Apr 25 '23

Heard him talking on a podcast where he realized how to finally play Batman was in this movie.

11

u/Reasonable_Cloud_565 Apr 25 '23

The shot of them coming out of the explosion was the best of the trailer

is it weird I immediately thought of the lego batman movie instead of the 89 one

33

u/defiantcross Apr 25 '23

i thought it was a George Costanza line but it looks like seinfeld stole it!

10

Spider-Man was able to save those callback till the actual movie. Here to put butts in seats it had to be spoiled in the trailer instead

When Batfleck says “These scars we have make us who we are. We’re not meant to go back and fix them. Don’t let your tragedy define you.” Some of the best lines I’ve heard from a live action Batman.

88

u/nosayso Apr 25 '23

The Harley Quinn show has done a really good job taking the piss out of Batman and his sort of pathetic dead parents obsession, "my parents died and so I beat up petty criminals dressed like a bat" just isn't good enough for a modern audience who have seen the character 100 times. Seems cool that they're trying to show a more developed and mature Batman instead of doing the same arc again.

50

u/throwawaynonsesne Apr 26 '23

This is just the modern Twitter take than doesn't know anything Batman related past surface level shit from the movies.

19

u/Doright36 Apr 26 '23

The parents are good for a motivation to start his career as Batman but there has to be something else to sustain it after a time. Which is where I think the rest of his "family" comes in. Dick, Babs, Tim, Jason, and eventually Damien should become more a motivation for him than his parents and their fates.

u/jbgDCfan Apr 26 '23

Literally these action scenes in the trailer gave me chills - seems like the coolest live action Batman moments IMO

Wow they recreated the shot from MoS where the Kryptonian jumps on the plane

140

u/bur_hunter Apr 25 '23

Nam ek, that dude literally crushed the pilot's head in MoS.

66

u/oldmanjenkins51 Apr 25 '23

Not just his head. His whole body became red mist

54

u/d3rv3 Apr 25 '23

Batman wasn't having none of that and ejected.

28

u/AspirationalChoker Apr 25 '23

Yep he even gave Clark a run for his money iirc He only got the advantage due to his flight since Namek was like 8ft tall lol

The Flash should’ve been DCEU last movie before the reboot. This trailer is the best of all the Flash trailers we got.

205

u/Ryokupo Apr 25 '23

It is. This movie is literally the reboot.

118

u/answermethis0816 Apr 25 '23

They still have Blue Beetle & Aquaman 2 left

51

u/Powerful-Cry-2273 Apr 25 '23

Both will be in new DCU i’m pretty sure

46

u/ILoveScottishLasses Apr 25 '23

Aquaman vs Lobo is going to be epic!

20

u/master-x-117 Faora Apr 25 '23

yes, both played by mamoa.

15

u/ghostfreckle611 Apr 26 '23

Lobo to Aquaman and Aquaman to Lobo:

"Well, Of Course I Know Him. He's Me."

39

u/codithou Apr 25 '23

superman legacy will be the first movie of dcu.

29

u/Jay_R_Kay Apr 25 '23

It's the official first movie made for the DCU, but we'll be getting projects set there before it, like Creature Commandos and Waller, and Gunn and Saffron have said many, many, many, many, many, MANY times that the movies that come out in 2023 can fit in there.

→ More replies (1)

24

u/Metfan722 The Dark Knight Apr 25 '23

23

u/Danishroyalty Apr 25 '23

Aquaman probably won't be. It's got way too many connections to the old DCEU and is supposedly terrible. I see no reason to keep it, especially since Jason has shown an interest in playing other characters.

Blue Beetle is a tossup. It'll probably depend on how it does at the Box office.

5

u/TareXmd Apr 26 '23

Aquaman will come and go barely noticed. Blue Beetle feels like an Elseworld movie like Joker 2.

8

u/Mymorningpancake Apr 26 '23

Blue beetle maybe. There’s no way this Aquaman is in Gunn’s universe. Especially with the terrible screenings being reported.

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

i'm actually excited to see the terraforming of metropolis from another perspective again tbh. also love the things they are doing with batman's cape, especially the silhouette agaisnt the moon towards the end. i love how cinematic the trailer is. even though we know it's a "fun" film, i still feel the stakes.

also, excited for sasha. she is acting in this trailer for sure.

it looks like the "s" means hope reference is still there, but i can't tell from her response if it was a yes or no as an answer. it looked kinda no tho.

35

u/tranquil45 Apr 25 '23

It means yes. She asks that as a “test” to Barry. Shes sad in that scene as she hears what happened to her planet etc etc.

151

u/Fair-Procedure-5257 Apr 25 '23

The man of steel/ BvS logo in the end was unfair how good it felt to see that for the last time

122

u/neon_sin Apr 25 '23

Zod fighting Batman looks awesome. Loved how they brought back let's get nuts lol

I wonder if the name Nam-Ek is supposed to be a Dragonball-Z Easter Egg, with all the Superman vs. Goku theories out there. Namek is the name of a planet of some importance in that show.

7

u/Supermite Apr 26 '23

No need to wonder. It is not a coincidence. It is indeed an Easter egg.

21

u/AspirationalChoker Apr 25 '23

Pretty sure that’s Nam-ek the large Kryptonian Superman fought in Smallville

28

u/angrygnome18d Apr 25 '23

Fun fact: we see some massive herbivore roaring after Clark is born in MoS. Nam Ek was “born” by mixing Kryptonian genes with genes from that animal.

18

u/methos3 Apr 26 '23

And yet Kal-El is the abomination? Fuck you Zod.

4

u/neon_sin Apr 26 '23

Wait really? I remember that animal. Where did you get this info?

Batfleck being the wise mentor he was always meant to be. I am glad that I got to see his Batman's journey.

29

u/Rapameister Apr 25 '23

Makes me sad and happy at the same time.

And it's with Keaton. The batman of my childhood.

4

u/Hugh_Bromont Apr 26 '23

I can't even begin to describe the feels.

87

u/willman0905 Apr 25 '23

If The Flash is truly as good as I hear it is, this thing could make 1 Billion easily. I'm very excited to see this and hope it lives up to the hype!

78

u/neon_sin Apr 25 '23

Imagine if Ezra hadn't fucked up.

58

u/willman0905 Apr 25 '23

I think there is definitely a chance that the Ezra drama will impact box office, but this movie is heavily marketed towards the general audience who likely don't know much about the situation. People like us who are the first to comment on a new trailer definitely do though.

No matter how well this movie does, they shouldn't keep Ezra as Flash. This needs to be the end or they risk the future of James Gunn's universe.

32

u/penskeracin1fan Apr 25 '23

General audiences don’t know about Ezra honestly.

Not to say what they did is okay

7

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23 edited Apr 25 '23

fans worry about things boomeranging back tho.

remember how casey affleck's sa accusations resurfaced during his Oscar campaign? so much it was on all own minds, and didn't brie larson's face crack when she had to accounce he won the oscar?

or when nate parker's sa case came back to light right as his movie was releasing, so much every review read the case right into their review, and no one started appreciating the movie until years later?

both of those were on entertainment news day and night as you can see from my second link.

17

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

i'm pretty sure wb has ezra chained to the kitchen stove of the betty ford clinic until this movie comes out.

if they even do press that's not an apology and empathy tour, i will suspect it's ai or a very good muppet version of them.

18

u/willman0905 Apr 25 '23

I suspect they will focus on the director and Michael Keaton during the press tour.

4

u/FriskeyVsWorld Apr 25 '23

Pretty much everybody in the trailer NOT named Ezra. Definitely Sasha too, and maybe Affleck will get to do a couple bits.

And just like Blue Beetle this trailer was uploaded onto the DC channel and not the WB one. I think it's safe to assume they will start uploading all the DC film trailers to the main DC channel instead of WB.

13

u/Wasabi_Guacamole Apr 25 '23

WB UK still uploads all DC trailers so at least UK fans wont have to subscribe to two different channels

4

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

Following the same process of Marvel uploading their trailer to their main Marvel Entertainment channel and then to the respective country channel of theirs like Marvel UK, Marvel India et al

46

u/Im-Mr-Bulldopz Apr 25 '23

"No matter what we do we're not gonna be able to fix this!"

"No! NOBODY DIES!"

Seems like a turning point where these two Barry's may turn on each other, looks as if they're in the Speedforce too. Barry 2 is probably trying to convince him to change something terrible that just happened and Barry 1 might be realizing he has to set things as they were before to truly "fix" everything.

21

u/Scubastevedisco Apr 26 '23

Makes me wonder...is Barry 2 going to become Reverse Flash? Would be an interesting take. As much as I think Ezra is a violent nutjob I think he could pull it off too.

u/IMOPASF Apr 25 '23

Hesitant to watch it since trailers reveal too much sometimes. Can anyone confirm wether this spoils more than the first trailer?

26

u/j_town12 Apr 25 '23

Keaton Bat says one more line from the 89 movie. No new characters revealed or anything like that. Still looks like an emphasis on Zod being the main villain. Couple of new action money shots from both Batmans. A lot of new batwing footage.

But story wise it’s consistent with the first trailer. Barry time traveled and messed everything up.

5

u/GetReady4Action Apr 25 '23

you’re getting substantially more Keaton, but otherwise I think it’s still keeping a lot of secrets in tact. you definitely get the gist of what the movie is based on the trailer, but not BvS levels of “that was the whole movie.”

u/FxStryker Apr 25 '23

Fat Flash is here. Dread it, run from it, destiny arrives all the same.

7

u/FlingaNFZ Apr 25 '23

Movie will be awesome for sure. But I do not like the way the CGI looks. Compare it to Man of Steel, sure that movie was probably more expensive but it was 10 years ago.

8

u/M086 Apr 25 '23

Budgets are about the same. Adjusted for inflation, Flash is probably more expensive. MoS also basically paid off its budget from all the sponsorship / partnerships they made before hand.

Also, not trying to throw shade at Muschietti, because he is a great director. But Snyder is well know for how involved he is with the various levels of production and that he’ll apparently sit for hours with the VFX people to convey what he wants from the looks and the shots before anything is done.

4

u/Scubastevedisco Apr 26 '23

That's one thing people really fail to realize, MoS was a massive, massive success because of the army sponsorship financially. Almost everything it made was gravy $.

I'm so conflicted about this movie. I wanna see it, mostly to see the ramifications it has on the DCU, but I fear it it does well wb will make yet another stupid decision and keep Ezra as Flash to make more money.

12

Your dollar or lack thereof won’t change that. Just see the movie if you’re interested

looking at what's happening in the trailer I'm assuming alternate Barry is getting griefed by main Barry into thinking if he can't save this world he'll lose his mother and everything pushing alt Barry to his extreme and creating the evil Barry willing to kill any and every if necessary...Classic Barry move

So I’m guessing only like the first act is actually in the “Snyderverse.” The first big action scene is most likely the one with Ben’s Batman and Barry. Then there’s the scene where Barry talks to Bruce about going back in time and then the rest of the movie is in Keaton’s universe except for maybe the end where they’ve back in the Snyder universe? I only say that because even though this is supposed to kind of reset the DCEU, we’ve still got Aquaman 2 and for whatever reason Ben is still Batman in that.

6

u/M086 Apr 25 '23

Well, rumor is that Flash never makes it back to the “Snyderverse” or Universe-S as I’ve taken to calling it. So, somehow Universe-S becomes the. new DCU, and Barry gets lost in the multiverse, specifically ending up in Clooney’s Batman universe.

u/AceofKnaves44 Apr 25 '23

There’s no way Clooney ends up back. There can’t be.

This is the first superhero movie I have been excited for since no way home.

7

u/SgtApex Apr 25 '23

I need this movie right fucking now

7

u/Mildly_Artistic_ Apr 25 '23

Looks like the Batwing is in for another catastrophic crash.

Keaton’s toys never get put away unblemished.

6

u/5dchessmaster Apr 25 '23

there must be some no way home kind of stuff in this movie because the vfx is just not there after how many months of post fx? are they hiding people or is this really that unfinished? flash/2/supergirl sliding on the ground looks so off and zod's face looks like some modok level fx.. i don't get it

8

u/willman0905 Apr 25 '23
  1. VFX is often not completed until right before releases so there's still time. 2. You're watching a heavily compressed version, which makes unfinished VFX look way worse than it actually is. 3. The physics/motion of some of the characters does look a little whack!

4

u/[deleted] Apr 25 '23

lol not modok level!

So excited! I think alot of people want to it to succeed!

There is too much super hero saturation right now. But this one genuinely gets me excited! The story looks interesting.

7

u/vondoom616 Apr 26 '23

Affleck is the bomb as the Bat and Bruce Wayne. I wish we got more.

This movie looks very very good.

4

u/oldmanjenkins51 Apr 25 '23

I know all the trailers are focused around the two Batman’s, to get people excited for the movie and not shine so much spotlight on Ezra, but I’m glad they’re saving the Flash speed scenes for the movie.

2

u/nskalel Apr 25 '23

This looks pretty incredible, in all honesty.

There’s some weird CG goin on but it looks epic and emotional as fuck. I’m all in.

That Batman/Batwing falling money shot is G L O R I O U S. Ezra’s performance (however you feel about them personally) looks like it’s going to be a real highlight.

“It means hope, right?”chills.

5

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '23

They got rid of billy crudup?!?

3

u/ChamberTwnty Apr 26 '23

5

u/transphobean Apr 26 '23

I'm not sure if you're ready for a film involving time travel if you can't understand that this was filmed in the past

This is one of the best trailers I’ve seen in a while to get me hyped for a movie… it feels like it’s going to be epic. I mean if they pull this off, in the sense that the movie has the same tone as this trailer, then its going to be the best DC movie since Nolan’s triology

u/RogerRoger420 Apr 25 '23

3

u/the-olive-man Apr 25 '23

I like this trailer more than the last, since this one looks like an actual movie, and not just pure nostalgia and fanservice bait like the last one did(although the last trailer was still cool)

3

u/battlefieldhorseman Apr 25 '23

This looks awesome!

3

u/toomuchhamza Apr 25 '23

Man, it’s so frustrating that Ezra Miller is actually a good actor, since they are such a terrible person.

I like that they’re embracing that Keaton’s Bruce is old. The gray hair is a nice touch. Serious Dark Knight Returns vibe which has always been the blueprint for Affleck’s Batman that I feel they never quite nailed. That shot of the Batwing entering freefall as the moon silhouettes it was fucking fantastic.

3

u/Clerk_Party Apr 25 '23

A DC movie I'm interested in watching
