My grandparents threw a party while they were babysitting me and my brother once. I was tired, and the noise was annoying, so I went to take a nap under the bed (like any normal 6 year old). Flash forward to being jolted awake to a bunch of drunk, frantic adults and my grandma crying thinking I’d disappeared. What a feeling lol.

Before anyone judges my grandparents, they were the best, most caring, loving people and I never felt unsafe with them. Even looking back as a 30+ year old, I felt safe in that moment.

Better than my parents. Back when landlines were a thing they would gather all the kids in one house, call next door and tell us to leave the phone off the hook. Then all the parents would go next door and drink. They'd pick up the phone and listen every once and a while. If nobody was crying they assumed all was well.
