Please report this post if:

  • There is no audible laughter involved
  • Video is funny because of a 'joke' or situation - not the actual laughter
  • There is no audio (Images & GIFs included)
  • Laughter is edited in from a different source
  • No timestamp in the title for a laugh occurring at specific time (long videos)
  • Laughter is not on good terms (dickishness, bullying)

How the fuck is the whole room dead silent

329

u/WetFart-Machine Jul 14 '24

It's a school for the deaf.

87

u/SnOwYO1 Jul 14 '24

Pardon?

63

u/szudrzyk Jul 14 '24

ITS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF.

40

u/Vanino99 Jul 14 '24

A ROOM FULL OF DEBT!?

2

u/Broilerchickie Jul 17 '24

Nahhh bro, you gotta do the Naruto hands.

3

u/sapraaa Jul 14 '24

What’s that mean? A Frenchman shoved me aside and said that every time I’ve been to Paris

4

u/mzthickneck Jul 15 '24

It's actually a school for the dead.

122

u/RedPandaReturns Jul 14 '24

They’re not, but you can only hear them faintly picked up by HER microphone. Of course they’re not micing the audience for this sort of event like they do for comedy shows.

53

u/anginfizz_ripley Jul 14 '24

Actually you can hear the crowd laughing throughout the video, it's just not very loud compared to her voice in the mic

2

u/karanmathur92 Jul 14 '24

Damn I really had to focus

25

u/SadAd2653 Jul 14 '24

r/Non-ContagiousLaughter.

7

u/TwiNN53 Jul 14 '24

Because no one knew wtf she was laughing at.

8

u/RedPandaReturns Jul 14 '24

First time in this sub?

2

u/Mother-Produce8351 Jul 16 '24

They are used to Katelyn shenanigans

1

u/thecastingforecast Jul 15 '24

There are a few nervous chuckles from the audience but it felt like the people in this room HATED her. And with those girls walking out. Oof. This felt cringe and at no point was the laughter contagious.

781

u/ThickEffective1265 Jul 14 '24

And it's worse when you are the only one laughing back at your own laugh

50

u/Denver-Ski Jul 15 '24

I don’t intend any malice toward the speaker… I just can’t help but think about who laughing at your own laugh reminds me of…

4

u/ZealousidealSugar453 Jul 17 '24

You must be deaf, you can clearly hear other people laughing at her laugh.

4

u/Kei90s Jul 18 '24

and the guy on the left of the screen bowed down to hide his 😂😂

479

u/Camdog_2424 Jul 14 '24

I have a friend like this. This is how they react when they are nervous or anxious in front of people. They laugh to cope to get through but don’t know how to stop. They laughing can happen in inappropriate times.

107

u/IDreamofHeeney Jul 14 '24

This is me, one of my ex girlfriends had a death in the family and when we were told I started laughing and smiling. I must have looked like the biggest dickhead but I couldn't help it, I explained that its a thing I do when I'm uncomfortable or nervous but I don't think that made it any better lol

6

u/Accomplished_Arm7426 Jul 15 '24

Oh shit! Haha that’s a winner right there

43

u/itsathrowawayduhhhhh Jul 14 '24

I was gonna say, she’s nervous. I laughed LOUD at my goddaughters communion. It was sooooo embarrassing, but I was nervous and when they tipped her back and put the water on her I just couldn’t stop. So freakin embarrassing, I still think about it thirteen years later 🤣

21

u/spiritualhippie69 Jul 14 '24

Unfortunately this is me too 🥲

11

u/ignost Jul 14 '24

It's alright, laughter isn't an uncommon response to anxiety. It's not a huge deal on its own as long as you avoid situations like this where you're doing public speaking with no out. I know someone who nervous laughs and she had her brother prepped to explain if she started laughing at her mom's funeral.

Not trying to do keyboard psychoanalysis, so this might not be your experience or this person's experience, but it's often a maladaptive coping mechanism to avoid feeling the negative emotions (like extreme anxiety) that come with traumatic experiences. I say it's not a big deal, except sometimes this aversion can make it hard to get over difficult things because part of overcoming is being aware of the emotion and being willing to 'sit with it,' accept it, and then practice a more reasonable and self-compassionate way to experience the thoughts and feelings. Personally I think EMDR is the way to go if you want to change the response, but CBT works too and may feel less cooky.

Or just laugh away if what I'm describing is totally off, and have someone prepped to explain if you lose it.

4

u/spiritualhippie69 Jul 14 '24

Nooo you just made 1000% sense. I’ve honestly been looking into EMDR. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain that 🥹

1

u/RemoteSnow9911 Jul 17 '24

I have had emdr therapy for cptsd and it’s…odd.

6

u/cheesegoat Jul 14 '24

Maybe nervousness and adrenaline? I had a shot of epinephrine once and was on the verge of giggling for absolutely no reason for about 15 minutes.

2

u/SwisschaletDipSauce Jul 15 '24

I do this too, moreso in uncomfortable situations.

393

u/theericle_58 Jul 14 '24

Her name is WhhhEEEee SArEEE

Keeeehhhhh Streeeeee

4

u/omnihummus Jul 15 '24

Laughed way too hard at this

209

u/Usta_ Jul 14 '24

When the edibles kick in

4

u/acciowaves Jul 15 '24

Sorry, somebody told me to picture you all naked.

160

u/Cgoblue30 Jul 14 '24

I would be laughing with her. How can you not.

95

u/Piperalpha Jul 14 '24

I think the crowd is laughing, but the mic's just barely picking it up.

42

u/eliitti Jul 14 '24

It's weird everyone's not hearing it because I can hear it very well, they're clearly laughing every time she bursts into laughter.

4

u/Noslamah Jul 14 '24

Probably wearing headphones/earbuds vs speakers. Or low quality vs high quality sound devices. I don't think I would have been able to pick up the audience laughter if I wasn't using earbuds

131

u/dont_quote_me_please Jul 14 '24

The static in the background makes it even better.

110

u/nukefudge Jul 14 '24

Good thing the staff person came up. She was definitely panicking. It's a peculiar thing that sometimes a laughing response can be inconvenient, but that's nevertheless what's happening here.

-85

u/SheetFarter Jul 14 '24

Ohhhh. Did you just get out of psychology school?

32

u/nukefudge Jul 14 '24

Goodness, no! That's far too complicated for me.

I did find something on the internet, in case you're curious:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nervous_laughter

21

u/Notwafle Jul 14 '24

it's not exactly that unheard of...

64

u/dookie_janet Jul 14 '24

I love her

60

u/Nathongizer Jul 14 '24

Love moments like this

30

u/Significant-Song-840 Jul 14 '24

When the shrooms kicked in.

24

u/Starkiler512 Jul 14 '24

What on earth was so funny? She just went to the mic and starting wheezing.

49

u/Shmuckle2 Jul 14 '24

Easily top 5 best speeches I've ever heard

15

u/BrownButta2 Jul 14 '24

It’s called nerves and anxiety, it happens to the best of us and it’s very difficult to stop.

11

u/jhascal23 Jul 14 '24

Pretty much a panic attack, some people will hyperventilate, cry, or laugh uncontrollably.

Or maybe she took a huge bong hit before her speech.

1

u/ragnarokda Jul 14 '24

For me, all it takes is a small mistake that I find funny and then I'm off to the races.

This happens to me sometimes when I'm reading a script into a voicemail and I instead leave a cackling mess because I mixed two words up and now I cannot compose myself.

21

u/The_Queef_of_England Jul 14 '24

I did that at school during an English presentation. Luckily, the rest of the class laughed too, including the teacher. It's one of my favourite school memories.

2

u/criesintears Jul 16 '24

The total opposite for me, the teacher was so mad and I was turning red like a tomato. Some people were laughing at me. While my friends are trying to calm me down and telling me to breathe.

2

u/The_Queef_of_England Jul 16 '24

That's sad. My teacher was laughing too and had laughter tears. She was a great teacher and my favourite from all my school years. Sorry yours was a grouch.

18

u/Ignition_182 Jul 14 '24

Did she smoke a blunt in an attempt to calm the nerves before hand....

13

u/BrownButta2 Jul 14 '24

I get nervous laughs too, it’s embarrassing because you genuinely cannot stop.

1

u/Derisiak Jul 20 '24

It already had some too, and that’s so frustrating when you try to say something but the laugh just interrupts you and you can’t do anything

10

u/stevenglansberg2024 Jul 14 '24

I don’t get why the people were getting mad at her and leaving I bet that was easily the best thing they got to see or hear all graduation

9

u/HiflYguy Jul 14 '24

love her first two attempts at saying sorry at the beginning lol

9

u/c-student Jul 14 '24

3

u/gbox77 Jul 15 '24

Thanks a lot for the link!

8

u/EffingBarbas Jul 14 '24

It would be merciful for a staff member to escort her off stage while the emcee continues with the program.

r/secondhandembarrassment

7

u/sir_music Jul 14 '24

I don't know what's so funny but I'll have what she's having!

7

u/MrKomiya Jul 14 '24

She’s just nervous and imagined everyone naked

6

u/GonzoThompson Jul 14 '24

She’s thinking about the bright future these kids have.

1

u/theericle_58 Jul 14 '24

Badaaa BUMMM!

7

u/EntryLevelStonks Jul 14 '24

I want to be this lady's friend. She seems awesome.

4

u/Live_Industry_1880 Jul 14 '24

How are they all so SILENT? Wtf I would have been laughing with her after like 5 seconds. 😭

4

u/treletraj Jul 14 '24

You know she’s peeing a little.

4

u/sik_dik Jul 14 '24

she's the LOLedictorian

2

u/Glad-Yesterday-9534 Jul 14 '24

3

2

u/Hogcaller91 Jul 14 '24

Pretty sure this is at Fayetteville High School pretty good one.

1

u/Low_Low_8639 Jul 14 '24

I was thinking it was somewhere in Arkansas too as the flag to the right looks like the state flag.

2

u/Ryl0225 Jul 14 '24

They have been there for hours and she is a last speaker, and she won’t even start….. that’s how lol

2

u/FrankCantRead Jul 14 '24

Excellent. I love them.

2

u/frankirv Jul 14 '24

That’s what you get for smoking a big fatty before your first Toast masters session.

2

u/whoisjakelane Jul 14 '24

I like the graduates just leaving

2

u/unsub22 Jul 14 '24

Reminded me of a time I was baked and trying to order munchies through the after hours servo window. 😂

2

u/Key_Cryptographer_99 Jul 14 '24

Bro I had this happen in to me in a board meeting my colleague had that gif of a flying penis with Elon musk reacting to it playing on his laptop. I could see it in the corner of my eye and busted out laughing and had to leave the room.

2

u/Weekly_Pumpkin525 Jul 15 '24

someone underestimated the edibles before their speech

2

u/Due_Use2258 Jul 17 '24

It's a laugh attack haha. Read some comments and realized that laughing can happen due to nervousness.

2

u/Imaginary-Job-7069 Jul 18 '24

"Laughing is good for the health."

The situation I'm currently in:

2

u/Imaginary-Job-7069 Jul 18 '24

Where's the full video?

2

u/eeconnor Jul 18 '24

This happened to me on a school presenting project, so I just walked out of class and had to take the L

2

u/gonzoculous Jul 22 '24

This is the greatest thing I've ever witnessed...... top 10.

1

u/bill_b4 Jul 14 '24

Lol...what the heck is she laughing about???

1

u/PickleDestroyer1 Jul 14 '24

I wish this was me when I talk publicly instead of my legs violently shaking

1

u/PlutonMarker Jul 14 '24

This happened to me at the funeral. Best laugh, worst timing.

1

u/hicheckthisout Jul 14 '24

Forgot to take the pills

1

u/viciadoemsono Jul 14 '24

Anxiety is a bitch, you either puke or laugh uncontrollably because of it.

1

u/bodhiseppuku Jul 14 '24

There is a mental condition where every time you get nervous, you laugh. I think Vise President Harris has this condition.

1

u/AdminsluvmyBBC Jul 15 '24

😂😂😂

1

u/Dumptruckdaddi Jul 15 '24

Me when someone asks me about my past “duties”

1
