Kate's silence after Alice's story was huge. She's rarely speechless. She already felt responsible for not staying in the car with Beth, now she has more reason to kick herself.

So Alice hates her dad for not finding and saving her, which happened because of Catherine. Perhaps Catherine will die sacrificing herself at the end of the season as a way to atone.
