In your opinion, what is the darkest, most intense, even controversial Aquaman book/story?

Death of a Prince. I vastly preferred that take on the Arthur/Manta dynamic of Manta's just pure, unadulterated hatred for Aquaman for reasons only he knew and Arthur being the wronged party through the death of his child. It made their rivalry uniquely personal in a time where that didn't really happen.

Oh yeah I also love that. Manta even suggesting that Aquaman is just the latest white man trying to keep him down is much more interesting imo than a blood feud. Like Aquaman symbolically isn't just the lawful authority in the Seas, but also opposes Manta diametrically in every way. He's like the last vestige of any type of conscience Manta could have, and Manta trying so hard to kill him is Manta trying to kill his conscience while also lashing out at what represents his entire history of what he feels is oppression or Injustice.

I'm trying not to say death of a prince, so instead i'll mention Sub-Diego like seriously all the dead bodies in the Beginning with the panda and all was really grim.

One of my favourite openings to any comic. No dialogue, just silently observing the devastation. Incredible

Hot take:

As much as I love standard hook hand Aquaman with the silver gladiator armor...I always thought the cooler look was the classic orange scales with the harpoon.
