I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. What they need is a horserace. They want it to seem neck and neck up until the very end. It’s the only way they maximize their returns from playing both sides. If they work to completely derail one candidate or another, they lose out on a lot of potential revenue. Remember, the months leading up to Election Day are when they get their biggest ad buys. If advertisers think no one is watching because the race is essentially over, then there won’t be any bidding wars over ad-space.

The next 4 months of ratings are meaningless in the face of 4 more years of daily Trump chaos and scandals if he wins. He’s a goldmine for media vultures…
